Description
Thought I should try something a bit different to what I usually do and to tell you quite honest this is the most realistic I've done so far.
Anyway, this is a sketch of the Panzerschiff 'Admiral Graf Spee'. Completed in January 1936 breaching the Treaty of Versailles' 10,000t displacement limit of a warship established at the end of the First World War. One of three heavy cruisers of the Deutschland Class (including that of her sister ships Deutschland and Admiral Scheer), otherwise named the "Pocket Battleship" by the British could outgun (mounting nine 283mm rifles divided into two main battery turrets) and outrun (at 28 kn) most British and French naval vessels during it's time. Making the Admiral Graf Spee and her sister ships dangerous adversaries in combat.
Her life was short lived however, after an engagement with British cruisers in the Battle of the River Plate, she was heavily damaged. Forcing her captain (Hans Langsdorff) to seek refuge in Montevideo, Uruguay. Due to sketchy rumours of oncoming British reinforcements however, Langsdorff ordered to scuttling of the vessel to save the lives of his crew, occurring off the coast of Montevideo on the 18th of December, 1939. To this day, the wreck sits relatively near to the surface with small sections poking out from underneath the waterline.
Made with HB, 2B, 3B, 4B and 6B pencils
Time: 9 and a half hours
Hope you like it,
Cheers!
